Gouramis are native to Asia, from Pakistan and India to Malaysia and Korea. They are divided into two types, Large Gouramis and Dwarf Gouramis. Gouramis have a special organ, known as the Labyrinth Organ, giving them the ability to breathe air from the surface of the aquarium, which allows them to live in low oxygen environments.
